Heartbeat (My short story)

WARNING: This story may be somewhat dark and/or depressing, Read at your own risk.

It is not quite yet finished, but this is what I have so far, will edit as I work on it.

There she lay, lying in my arms. I see blood coming from her mouth, her eyes losing focus. A tear falls from my eye, wetting her pale face. Through the pain, she manages a smile, which so often made my worst moments a paradise. But now, her smile fills me with a sense of hopelessness, knowing I will never see that beautiful smile again anywhere other then in my memories. As her eyes close, I hear her heart beat. It beats it’s final beats. The sound that haunts my every waking moment, as she takes her final breath….

Ba-bump, Ba-bump, Ba-bump….

I wake up with a start. It was only a dream… But the events that took place are still a reality. One week passed since her funeral, but my memories of her are still in the center of my mind. I cant seem to do anything but think about her, her beautiful smile, her heavenly voice. But then the sounds change to another… The sound my every dream focuses on….

Ba-Bump, Ba-bump, Ba-bump…

I lay my head back down on the pillow, trying to forget my pain. My friends tried to comfort me, but it is to no avail. I cant get her out of my head. I know she would have wanted me to move on and be happy, but how can I be happy when she was my one joy? I close my eyes, listening to the clock tick away, playing its same song… But as I lay there, the sound seems to morph into a far too familiar sound….

Ba-Bump, Ba-bump, Ba-bump…

That was marvelous.

At first I was going to jokingly say "What a story, Phillip."

But dang... What a story, Phillip...

What a story, Phillip. I really wish you would've gone more into it cause, I wanna know more! Like that song in Grease, Gimme more! Gimme more!

I'm not into sappy stories. But this was really well written. Great job, Phillip.
