E3 2014! Empty E3 2014!

Post by cBm Mon May 26, 2014 10:42 pm

E3 2014 is right around the corner, starting June 10th and running through June 12th. E3, for those of you that don't know, is one of the largest gaming conventions of the year, containing conferences from several of the largest video game companies, and home to the announcements of several new gaming hardware and software.

Which conference are you most looking forward to this year? Who do you think will "win" E3? Any gaming announcements that you are particularly looking forward to? Talk about it here!

Looking forward really to pretty much every developer's conference. Sony will no doubt have some uncharted 4 footage and hopefully some other exlcusives, I'm also expecting them to announce a big 2.0 PS4 update that adds everything people want.

Microsoft will hopefully just continue the good form they've had after their management shake-up and hopefully we'll learn a lot more about halo 5.

EA will have Battlefront, don't think we need to say anything else on that one.

Ubisoft will have more Far Cry 4 info for definite and hopefully some new footage of AC Unity and AC Comet.

I'm pretty much only excited for Battlefront III and Nintendo. Mostly for Smash Bros, Hyrule Warriors and the two other possible Zelda announcements.

And Valve if they don't chicken out.

Again. Razz

Well here is the timetable of twitch's official streams:
http://www.polygon.com/2014/6/2/5772276/twitch-streams-e3-2014

No Valve or Rockstar as usual.

Interestingly though Bethesda are down with an unannounced title, Fallout 4????

H1Z1 to make an appearance, game footage or just rendered stuff and dev talks?

Lots of Microsoft Studios slots there with unannounced titles and some Sony and Nintendo titles there not announced on the list.

505 Games listed, Payday 3?

Crytek unannounced title, Crysis 4 or is that too soon?

Square Enix unannounced titles, new Sleeping Dogs or maybe Final Fantasy stuff.

Finally Nintendo clearly won't be doing a lot of faffing about or they just don't have a lot to show, their event is only down for an hour. Razz I would imagine hopefully it's the first option as Nintendo need to just keep bringing out good exclusives, Mario Kart 8 has sold pretty well for first week out especially considering it had to compete with Watch Dogs.

Yep, I'm glad Nintendo is finally starting to make some progress. For over a year the only "system seller" they had was Zelda Windwaker, and that was a remake. A good remake, but still not original content.

With MK8 and Smash Bros. in the near future, maybe they can pick themselves off the ground, and get back to bringing us quality games, something they've sadly been lacking the past couple of years.

I'm pretty sure they were on E3 when they were announcing Portal 2, but then again I'm NOT entirely sure. Razz

I didn't get to see Microsoft's or Ubisoft's yet, but I did see EA and Sony's live.

EA's was kinda boring, honestly. Bunch of sports games that I'm not a big fan of. The Sims 4 trailer looked cool, and Mirror's Edge 2 looked promising. Other than that, not much stood out for me.

Now, Sony. The games and content itself was pretty amazing. Strong showing of Indie Games, including No Man's Sky which looks fun, and a "sequel" to Journey that takes place underwater it seems.

2 new IPs called The Order and Bloodborn. The Order looks pretty meh, honestly. Gameplay looked to be a generic "Press Triangle to live!" playstyle, something I'm not a fan of personally. Bloodborn looks very dark and creative, yet no gameplay footage was shwon, so I'm skeptical for the moment.

Uncharted 4, Dead Island 2, and Little Big Planet 3 were all announced as well.

The biggest flaw with Sony's was the presentation. They had several sound issues, multiple technical difficulties throughout, and some of the most awkward, painfully unfunny presenters ever. The one guy, whose name I forget although I know he's a major part of the company, made so many jokes that no one laughed at, it was ridiculous. I remember 15 minutes in to his portion, he finally got a laugh out of someone, and he just lit up.
When the words "Video games, right!?" come out of your mouth after a video reveal, you know there's a problem.

But, of course, E3 isn't about the presentation, it's about the games themselves. And as I sad before, they had a strong showing of games, some interesting new concepts with the Morpheus, and I'm honestly considering buying a PS4 if I can ever scrounge up the cash.

I've got pages of notes from yesterday. Ubisoft stole the show yesterday really from everyone. As much as people hate the presenter, she is a lot better than the business people or celebrities who don't know anything about the games.

Sony I think showed a lot of great games coming. I wouldn't read into too much of the conceptual stuff yet (and there was a lot of it yesterday). While I was kind of disappointed at the fact they spent a little too long talking about indie games that are already on PC coming to PS4. Otherwise it was a typical Sony showing with of course Andrew House attacking Microsoft in a subtle way. Also GTAV on PS4 and XB1 is a big cash grab for Take-Two so I will refuse to buy it on those consoles, the PC version on the other hand can actually be fixed so I might get it for PC.

My notes from Microsoft have a lot of halo stuff Razz. Rise of the Tomb Raider will hopefully be an amazing sequel to an excellent reboot of the Tomb Raider brand (a brand which I grew up with really on PS1 and of course the movies). Microsoft were very much focused on apologising to gamers, over 60 minutes of basically loud music and lots of game announcements and footage. Honestly they did themselves proud and I can't wait to see what other games they have for us.

I'll do EA now, EA pulled the "OH HAVE WE GOT NEWS FOR YOU!!!!" and then "We have lots of new games that aren't going to see the light of day until 2015 and beyond." While I liked that they showed us some early ideas of new games, I expected to see great games for the next 12 months. Battlefront looks great in the Frostbite 3 engine though Razz, but they pulled the announcement to announce more announcements with it really. BF Hardline looked cool but all too familiar. Don't get me started on Sims 4 as my notes end up with just me poking fun at it. Razz Mirrors Edge 2 looks like DICE getting some free reign from EA. EA Sports games don't change much so I'll skip them.

Ubisoft were the highlight of the day. As much as people can whine about the downgrade of Watch Dogs, it was a good game for a new IP. The Division looks great and I really look forward to seeing it. Far Cry 4 looks very Far Cry and the villain has been chosen perfectly. The Crew also sounds great. Valiant Hearts: The Great War seems like a heart breaking game, the trailer was so depressing. Rainbow Six Siege was the surprise announcement and it looks pretty epic. AC Unity, the French Revolution is an amazing setting (I'm a big fan of the French Revolution). I can't wait to feel immersed in the history.

Also forgot to mention I can't wait to try the Destiny Alpha on PS4!

Nintendo was fantastic. I love how purposefully ridiculous and silly they were with their presentation, poking fun at alot of the complaints people have with them.

Smash Bros. Of course looks great, Hyrule Warriors looked great, and the tease they gave for the new Zelda game was beautiful. The open world concept sounds like it could be a lot of fun, and I hope they do it well.

Surprisingly, that Splatoon game looks like a lot of fun. I could actually see myself enjoying it quite a bit.

I agree with everything. One thing I was expecting was the Majora's Mask remake since Zelda Williams teased it at the Smash Bros event. But I guess I'll just have to keep on waiting, eh?

Splatoon looks really good. It's got a very interesting concept.

Smash Bros was exciting to see more of. The tournament was great. It was fun seeing the crowds going crazy during the fights.

Hyrule Warriors seems like a great snack before Zelda U. I'm really happy that you can play as multiple characters. Especially Midna, being my favorite one in the franchise.

And Zelda Wii U... My mind was blown away from the art style. It fits the Zelda franchise perfectly.
The world is huge. Hyrule has never looked more amazing.
I think Link's design looks fine. I don't have a problem with it. But that was one interesting arrow he shot at that Tektite/Peahat looking thing.

Well, even though there was no MM3D reveal, I was really happy with what we got!

I can't stop watching the Far Cry 4 trailer. No Man's Sky looks super impressive on PS4 too, looks like a real gem on the PS4 in terms of indie games.

Also if people haven't checked it out yet, go see the Project Cars E3 trailer and you will be in awe at how good that game looks especially since it was made by a small team. If the physics are as good as it's graphics it will definitely be sports game of the year material.
