Re: Top Five Favorite Books/Series
Only five... That's going to be tough... So I'm going to list more! (It should be noted, that these could likely be slid around a decent amount. I'm not good at deciding favorites. )
1: Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien (Including the Silmarillion and The Hobbit)
2: The Squire's Tales books, by Gerald Morris.
3: The Dragonback books, by Timothy Zahn. (I don't remember the precise series name.)
4: The Enchanted Forest Chronicles, by Patricia C. Wrede.
5: The Frontier Magic Series, by Patricia C. Wrede.
6: The Conquerors Trilogy, by Timothy Zahn.
7: The Quadrail Series, by Timothy Zahn.
8: The Lyra books, by Patricia C. Wrede.
9: The Icarus Hunt, by Timothy Zahn.
10: Timothy Zahn's Star Wars books. (Yes, I blatantly cheated there. )

Criticalhit: I love the original Tom Clancy books. Are the Splinter Cell books anything like them? They are by a different author though, right?
JJS: Hey, I could have listed a bunch more too!
I'm guessing that you mildly like Tim Zahn...
Have you read Allegiance and Choices of One by him? They are pretty good!

Yes. Timothy Zahn is AWESOME.
And Allegiance and Choices of One come under "Timothy Zahn's Star Wars books" (Aka, I've read them and like them.)

3. Life of Pi by Yann Martel, haven't finished, but when I do, this book will prob be no. 1
4. Charlie and the Chocolate factory. There is no denying this is one of the ALL- TIME greats.

Re: Top Five Favorite Books/Series
HMMM....I've read a lot of books, but let's see what I can recall that I love (haven't read much, recently).
1. REALLY tough, buuut...maybe the Inheritance Cycle. Maybe. I can't choose an absolute favorite...
2. Lord of the Rings, (including the Silmarillion and The Hobbit)
3. Many StarWars books, most by Timothy Zahn
4. The Inkheart Trilogy
5. I'm not sure. XD

Re: Top Five Favorite Books/Series
There is absolutely no way I can list all of my favorite books, or even put them in order. But I'll at least list my absolute favorite series...
1. Hunger Games (If you listen to them as audiobooks, they're simply incredible) by Suzanne Collins
2. Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy
3. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
4. Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer
5. Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins
6. Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan
7. Alex Rider by Anthony Horowitz
8. The Shadow Children by Margaret Peterson Haddix
9. Septimus Heap by Angie Sage
10. Sherlock Holmes (I've been reading the complete collection on my iPod, and it's unbelievably good) by Arthur Conan Doyle
It's an interesting collection, to say the least.

Re: Top Five Favorite Books/Series
Nice list Magna. I have only not read The Shadow Children, and only read the first Gregor book as I found it quite boring. I suppose I should add Skulduggery to the list. Those are so good! Have you read the final Septimus Heap yet?

Re: Top Five Favorite Books/Series
I've read nearly the entire series of Septimus Heap, but then...eh. It didn't feel the same. I liked the first book best.
Skulduggery was good too, it was different from most fantasy, IMO.

Re: Top Five Favorite Books/Series
Yeah, the Septimus Heap books peaked at about the second or third one for me. As for Skullduggery, it is a lot darker than most other "children's" series while still keeping a great pace of action and razor sharp wit. It is too bad that you can't buy any after The Faceless Ones in the US. Had to buy them on Amazon UK.

Re: Top Five Favorite Books/Series
Yeah, same here for the Heap series.
It was a bit more darker, I enjoyed the consistency in each character's personality.

Re: Septimus Heap
Septimus Heap:
Yes, I did read the last one. I agree that it peaked earlier in the series, but I'm amazed that Sage kept up with that many characters throughout the series.
Skullduggery Pleasant:
In my opinion, Skulduggery Pleasant is absolutely outstanding, and Derek Landy is the best author out there besides (possibly) Suzanne Collins. Everything is written so well, I love all the plot twists, the humor, the balance, the characters...and I haven't even mentioned the content. I cannot wait for Last Stand of Dead Men, the eighth book. The annoying part is that it usually takes a week to ship from the U.K., but it's worth it. I will be very surprised is Skulduggery Pleasant isn't my favorite series by the time I've finished the ninth (and final) book. It's just that good.
Gregor the Overlander:
The first book was a bit boring, I agree, but it got so much better. The only thing stopping it from taking a higher place on my list was the ending, which I found a bit deflating. But overall, the Underland is created so well by Collins, it's unbelievable.
Shadow Children:
I admit that I haven't read those books in some time, but they're still great, although better suited to the 11-13 age group. It's written very well, and the plot is what really makes it great.
