Your Life in Six Songs Empty Your Life in Six Songs

It's simple.  Choose six songs or so that are meaningful to you, list them, and give a few reasons why.

Mine:

1.  The Fire of Eternal Glory - Dmitri Shostakovich (preferably as performed by the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps)
This was used as a warm-up chorale one year in my marching band.  I find it to be quite a beautiful piece of music, and as such, I have chosen it to represent the beauty of the world/universe.

2.  Golden Reverie - {{{Sunset}}}
A while back, Seananners posted a gameplay commentary entitled "Why so Serious?*" in which he told a story about how he had been riding his bike the other night when this track came on his Pandora station.  The track gave him a feeling of euphoria as he gazed up at the stars overhead.  He went on to talk about how one should not get frustrated over the little things in life and how small we are in comparison to the grand scheme of the universe.  Both that message and this track has gotten me through many a tough in my life.

3.  With Any Sort of Certainty - Toh Kay
This is probably my favorite song on this list, perhaps of all time.  Toh Kay is the acoustic/folk project of the lead singer of the band Streetlight Manifesto, and this song is an acoustic cover of the same song by Streetlight Manifesto.  I really like, well, everything about the song, and the lyrics resonate with me.

4.  Itchin' on a Photograph - Grouplove
Ha, this song is just awesome.  What I love about it is how the lead singer completely disregards the idea of sounding good in favor of just putting raw energy and information into the track.  This represents my own notion that music does not necessarily need to sound pleasing to the ear to be enjoyable, as well as what I think music this is all about:  good feelings and having fun

5.  Too Long - Daft Punk
This song is the final track off of Daft Punk's amazing album, Discovery, and as such, to me, it represents the fact that all things must come to an end, and it often pops into my head when I think about how certain chapters in my life are drawing to a close, and new ones are beginning.

6.  Nessun Dorma, from Turandot - Giacomo Puccini (preferably as performed by the Denver Brass)
This is a beautiful aria by Puccini.  It was the ballad of one of my marching band shows (incidentally, the same year we learned the Shostakovich), so it brings back so many powerful memories of performance.  But listening to the strains of this piece also gives me the impression of looking to the future with a hope for a cry of "Vincero!"  (victory)

Well, I'm kinda tired, so that really isn't my best writing, and I was rushing to finish this, but whatever.
Hope you enjoy thinking about this!

*Note:  Seananners made the video private after a while because he feared he might get a copyright strike from using the song in the video.

Now this is quite a topic! I would list my own song choices right away, but first I have to remind myself which ones are actually meaningful to me. Razz
